Troop 505 Minka Farm Ultimate Capture The Flag Expedition Specs Dec 13-15

The ScoutmasterVeterinary Medicine, Animal Science, and Automotive Maintenance Merit Badges will be offered.


Troop 505 will spend the weekend at Minka Farm (Harry’s Farm) in Efland, NC.  The scouts will have a working farm experience.  The scouts will cover some requirements for veterinary medicine, animal science, and automotive maintenance merit badges.

Minka farm is owned by Harry family, parents of scout Alex Henry and Eagle Scout Nathan Harry.  The Harry’s raise cattle, chickens, ducks, vegetables, and orchard fruit on Minka farm.  Learn more at

NOTE: Scout should eat Friday Dinner prior to departure from the American Legion.

6:00-7:30pm Dinner in Patrols
7:30-9:30pm Capture the Flag

Personal Equipment

Prepare for a farm experience.  Make sure to bring warm clothing for cool weather.  A hat, warm coat, and gloves are recommended, while you should be prepared for wet weather as well.   Equipment guidelines:  The fifteen camping essentials checklist is located on the Troop 505 website under “checklists” (right hand side of main webpage).   Scouts should also bring a notebook and pen for notes.  Scouts doing automotive maintenance merit badge may want to bring clothes that can get dirty (check car oil, etc).


Wear your Class B uniform (Scout pants) on this outing.  Bring your class A s for flag ceremonies, Scout’s Own, and the Campfire.  Bring a complete change of dry clothes to be left in the vehicles for the ride home.


Meals are by patrol as arranged at the Troop meeting on Wednesday night.  If you have questions about your responsibilities or cooking supplies contact your patrol leader.  Patrols will prepare meals (Saturday breakfast, lunch, dinner, and Sunday breakfast).

Tent Assignments

Tent assignments will be made by patrol at Wednesday night’s meeting.


Take US 40 West to Exit 157 (Buckhorn Rd Exit, approximately 20 miles).  Exit 157 turn left on Buckhorn Rd and drive 3.6 miles and turn left onto Minka Farm Lane. Drive down Mink Farm Lane approximately 0.2 miles. Approximately 26 miles each way.
