Welcome

Troop 505 meets Wednesday nights from 7-8:30pm.  We meet at the YMCA at Meadowmont (301 Old Barn Lane, Chapel Hill 27517).  Please check our calendar for upcoming meetings and events.

Our troop is welcoming and active.  In addition to our weekly meetings, we have fun, engaging monthly campouts in which we practice our scouting skills.  We believe that the program of scouting teaches us to be accepting of all people and encourage young people between the ages of 11-17* to check us out any time.

*New Scouts can be age 10 if they are in fifth grade and register on or after March 1.

To see a sample of our camping trips, please see the “Our Camping Trips” tab.  For planned camping trips, please see the “News” tab.

We joined Troop 505 two years ago after many years in Cub Scouts. We were supposed to visit three Troops. Troop 505 was our first visit and my son instantly said he didn’t want to visit any other Troops because he felt so welcomed. Troop 505 is chartered by the American Legion and is welcoming and inclusive to all. My son also liked that the Troop goes on high adventure trips every other year to Philmont, SeaBase, Northern Tier, etc.

We joined this group a year ago after visiting a couple others in the area. We choose this one because it was welcoming and inclusive. The older boys already in the troop were patient with a newcomer (we never did Cub scouts) and tolerant of each kid’s unique personality quirks. The troop camps once a month, meets weekly, and is open to new ideas. It’s been a great experience for my son–a terrific, challenging confidence-builder–and a ton of fun! So glad to be a part of this community.
